REGIONAL - SOUTHEAST NC, VA likely to have high-speed rail funded with fed stimulus money March 1, 2009 - The nation may soon get a tangible example of federal stimulus funding for high-speed rail service in and out of the nation's capital. The News & Observer, serving the Raleigh-Durham area, reported that North Carolina and its partner Virginia are well-positioned to be one of the first two states to receive new federal money to fund plans for high-speed rail money. These plans have been sitting mostly dormant since the early 1990s. The proposed high-speed train route would go from Charlotte to Washington via Greensboro, Raleigh and Richmond. For advocates of high-speed rail service, the hope is that other states will soon be in line to receive millions for similar funding. | More Information Here. |
